Operating systems

Following are some of important functions of an operating System. Be sure to consider these carefully when deciding which kind of computer to use for education.

  • Memory Management.

  • Processor Management.

  • Device Management.

  • File Management.

  • Security.

  • Control over system performance.

  • Job accounting.

  • Error detecting aids.

Below are the two operating systems I prefer to substitute for the physical school building while teaching in a digital age (Bates). They only need to turn here for the ability to watch/read a play, learn about stage etiquette, theatre safety, and shop skills. For more information on each of them just click on the logo'd icon.

Learning management systems

A learning management system is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, automation and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs.

The platforms below have been chosen for different reasons based on their individual attributes for use in diverse student populations. Thankfully with these programs we can augment our way of recruiting shop assistance, sharing demonstrations, validating assessments, keep records, and issuing certifications. Click the logo'd icon for more information about  each system.

communication tools

Not all team members have the same experience and skills, so with the help of communication tools, they are able to share what they know with others to bring about the best results for understanding. I have chosen these five communication tools to diversify our reach across technology and build a communities using connectivism techniques (Duke, Harper, & Johnston).

We need modification tools such as these to communicate expectations on production role assignments, supporting perl collaboration, and sharing the results of lab activities. Students attend virtual classes on Zoom, receive course updates by email, and Flipgrid makes a great way to have online collaborative learning discussions. Click the logo's icon for more information on each of these communication tools.

Google Meet, also known as Google Hangouts Meet, is built to let dozens of people join the same virtual meeting, and speak or share video with each other from anywhere with internet access.

presentation tools

Knowing which type of presentation you need to give will depend on the tools you select for the project.

Types of Presentations

  • Informative. Keep an informative presentation brief and to the point.

  • Instructional. Your purpose in an instructional presentation is to give specific directions or orders.

  • Arousing. Your purpose in an arousing presentation is to make people think about a certain problem or situation.

  • Persuasive.

  • Decision-making

Good presentations are memorable. They contain graphics, images, and facts in such a way that they're easy to remember. Great presentations are motivating. Students should feel the desire to pick up a paint brush after watching a scenic art workshop. They should feel confident in their safety when using hand tools.  Click on the logo'd icon for more information on the application.

Our mission is to give everyone a voice and show them the world. We believe that everyone deserves to have a voice, and that the world is a better place when we listen, share and build community through our stories.

file sharing tools

There are a few different types of file sharing needed for educational purposes.

  • File transfer protocol programs (FTP)

  • Peer-to-peer networks

  • Removable storage media

  • Online file sharing services

For our programming we are focused on the online file sharing services that are user friendly and free. These types of applications are more widely used with self-directed study students and practicum courses (Grow). Click on the logo'd icon for more information about each one.

Google Drive allows users to store files on their servers, synchronize files across devices, and share files. Store, share, and access your files and folders from any mobile device, tablet, or computer—and your first 15GB of storage are free.

research Tools

Data may be grouped into four main types based on methods for collection: observational, experimental, simulation, and derived. The type of research data you collect may affect the way you manage that data. Also, knowing how to get information is a powerful skill students develop over time. From finding definitions to online shopping, my students stay connected to information in this futuristic world (Venkatesh, Jedwab, Rabah, Thomas, Varela, & Alexande).

Research is a time-intensive activity, which means you will need a tool to organize both your professional and personal life. These are important tools for the areas of Triple E. These sources can engage, extend and enhance the students understanding of tools, materials, or processes. Click the logo'd icons below for more information on this research tool.

The main purpose of Google Search is to search for text in publicly accessible documents offered by web servers, as opposed to other data, such as images or data contained in databases.

Discover all departments, materials, and supplies using the site directory. Shop for a variety of products for your projects. Search by name, keyword, or item number. Curb side pick up or delivery on select items.

Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia, created and edited by volunteers around the world and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. Wikipedia is a multilingual open-collaborative online encyclopedia created and maintained by a community of volunteer editors using a wiki-based editing

Creative tools

While creativity is hard to pin down precisely, it's generally considered as the ability to create something using the imagination. The definition of creativity is the ability to come up with new and exciting ideas. When Apple Computer comes up with a brand new product such as the iPod that no one has ever thought of before, this is an example of creativity. When a painter creates a beautiful work of art, this is an example of creativity.

Since this in one of the most interactive area of the educational programming there are a lot of options for artists and creators of all kinds to design. That is the primary reason this area of our virtual environment is vast. We want to give students a more sophisticated understanding of the how to make great story telling presentations and create learner centered paths to demonstrate understanding in ways they could do not do before (Weimer).

These tools support all areas of our teaching strategies. Without them we would just be a glorified arts and crafts class. According to the SAMR model these tools let the student redefine what performance art is using technology to enhance the experience.  They will discover how they should best express their technical skills when creating theatre. Click the logo'd icon below for more information on these creative tools for design students.
